In my shop we do very extensive cleaning of all the Brass and Woodwind instruments. Using Green friendly chemistry along with Ultrasonic power cleaning we achieve safe quality results.  I was the first shop in Minnesota to incorporate ultra sonic cleaning into Instrument repair.  I eliminated the harsh chemicals that repair techs are still using.  I would be happy to explain any process.
